Drop Resistant & Waterproof (IP67): Solidly constructed and rated IP67, the Sonos Roam is drop resistant, waterproof up to 3' for 30 minutes, and impervious to dust for your outdoor adventures. The IP67 rating makes the Sonos Roam dust & water proof; it can be submerged in up to 3' of water for up to 30 minutes. Its rugged and durable outer shell is also resistant to bumps and falls; humidity, salt spray, and UV rays; and hot or cold temperatures.

Audio Section: The Sonos Roam's precision-engineered acoustics deliver the clarity, depth, and fullness you would expect from a much larger speaker. It utilizes a 2-way driver design with one dome tweeter for crisp high-frequencies and one cone woofer for faithful playback of midrange/midbass frequencies. Both drivers are powered by individual Class-H digital amplifiers that have been perfectly tuned to the speaker's unique acoustic architecture. You can use the Sonos S2 app to adjust bass, treble, and loudness.

  • Auto Trueplay: The Sonos Roam speaker's built-in microphone array detect what type of music is playing and measure the frequency response of your surroundings. Using this Trueplay Tuning software, the speaker then adjusts its EQ for perfectly balanced sound. Auto Trueplay is triggered whenever the Roam speaker is placed in a new location, and continuously refines the sound while the Roam is stationary. Make sure the Roam's microphone array is turned on (Auto Trueplay will not work when the microphone array is turned off). Trueplay tuning available via Wi-Fi or Bluetooth
  • Stereo Pairing: You can use two Sonos Roam speakers in a stereo pair - one speaker acts as a dedicated left, while the other speaker acts as a dedicated right. Stereo Pairing is only available when the Sonos Roam is in Network (Wi-Fi) mode; not available in Bluetooth mode. The Sonos Roam cannot be used as wireless rear surrounds. The Sonos Roam will not pair with the Sonos Sub and cannot be used as wireless surrounds.

Mounting Options: The Sonos Roam can be positioned vertically or horizontally on a flat table-top surface. When positioned vertically, the Roam has a minimal footprint and the rounded triangular shape can tuck neatly into a corner anywhere space is at a premium. You can also lay the Roam speaker horizontally for stability on uneven ground it will subtly direct the sound upward in the direction of your ears for a better listening experience.

  • Vertical Dimensions: 2.4375" (w) x 6.625" (h) x 2.375" (d); 9.3 lbs
  • Horizontal Dimensions: 6.625" (w) x 2.375" (h) x 2.4375" (d); 9.3 lbs

Note: There are no included brackets, keyholes slots, or threaded inserts to wall-mount the speaker.

Rechargeable Battery with Wireless Charging: The Sonos Roam is equipped with a rechargeable battery (18Wh) that provides up to 10 hours of continuous playback time. You can wirelessly charge the Roam speaker with a Qi-certified wireless charger or a 5V/1.5A to 2.1A USB power adapter (all sold separately - see Accessories Tab). Sonos also makes a custom-designed Wireless Charger, featuring magnets for easier, quicker, and more secure attachment. System Requirements

Internet Service Provider: You'll need a high-speed, wired internet service provider connection such as cable, fiber, or DSL. Wireless internet connections such as satellite, mobile hotspots, or 4G LTE routers can experience delays between the internet connection and Sonos and are not supported. Using these types of connections can cause music to not play, skip, or cut out completely.

Network Requirements: Sonos can be configured in either a wireless or wired network setup. This article will cover the differences between the two setups and provide recommendations for which setup best suits your system and home network.

  • Wired Setup: A Sonos system operating in a wired setup will require one of your Sonos products to remain connected to the router via Ethernet cable at all times. If your Sonos system is in a wired setup and you use a WiFi mesh router with multiple wireless nodes, we recommend wiring your Sonos product directly to the primary wired mesh node. Avoid wiring any Sonos products to the wireless mesh nodes. If you are on a corporate or advanced network, it must not block Spanning Tree Protocol (STP).
  • WiFi Setup: All Sonos products can connect to wireless routers or access points that support 802.11b/g WiFi over 2.4GHz. Additionally, all Sonos products can connect to WiFi networks that use WPA1 and WPA2 Personal security standards, as well as unsecured WiFi networks. When running S2 software, many newer Sonos products support faster WiFi modes (including 802.11ac) and will connect to them when possible. You can learn more about which Sonos products support which WiFi modes, standards, and protocols in this article.

Notes: Unsupported network setups and devices include -

  • Wireless internet connections such as satellite, mobile hotspots, or LTE routers
  • Guest networks or networks that use a portal login page
  • Networks using wireless range extenders2
  • Ethernet over Power (EOP) devices
  • WPA/WPA2 Enterprise

Sonos S2 Controller App: Sonos offers a Sonos Controller app for for Apple iOS 14.0+, Android OS 8.0+, Fire 7.0+Mac OSX 10.11+, and Windows 8+. The Sonos S2 is a new app and operating system (OS) that powers the next generation of products and experiences. In addition to new features, usability updates, and more personalization moving forward, Sonos S2 enables higher resolution audio technologies for music and home theater.

  • Sonos Controller App Requirements: A compatible Apple iOS or Android device running the Sonos Controller app is required to set up a new Sonos system or add new products. Sonos also supports macOS and Windows versions of the Sonos Controller App, but certain system management features such as setting up a new Sonos system or adding new products, are not available. See this article for more details.
  • Sonos Product Compatibility: Most Sonos products are compatible with S2. Some older Sonos "legacy" products will not support the advances of S2 due to their memory and processing power. The older Sonos "legacy" app is referred to as the Sonos S1 app. This article will break down which Sonos products are compatible with Sonos S2 vs S1.
  • Split Sonos System: If you have both, older "legacy" Sonos products and newer Sonos products, you have the option to create two separate eco-systems - one that will be controlled with the older Sonos S1 controller app and the other that will be controlled by the newer Sonos S2 controller app. Read this article for more details.

Supported Audio Formats: Sonos supports a variety of audio formats for its 2ch stereo products and multichannel home theater speakers.

  • Music Libraries: Sonos supports the playback of your own music library stored on a NAS drive or personal computer. Sonos supports compressed & uncompressed audio formats when streaming from your local music library. Sonos systems support mono (1-channel) or stereo (2-channel) audio files with sample rates up to 48kHz. Sonos music libraries are limited to 65,000 tracks. The memory limit can be reached prior to 65,000 tracks if there is a large amount of metadata. For example, classical music tracks tend to have a large amount of metadata and can use up the available memory before the 65,000 track limit is reached. If you have more than 65,000 tracks, you can use Plex with Sonos as an alternative.
  • Home Theater: Sonos home theater speakers are compatible with a wide range of television and movie soundtrack audio formats. Compatible audio formats will vary by Sonos home theater speakers and by connection method to your TV. While most TVs are compatible with Sonos home theater speakers, some may need additional configuration or may not work with Sonos. This article will describe some basic requirements when using Sonos speakers with your TV.

Q
Can I tell it to connect to Spotify and it will play directly from there without me tying up my phone?
charles  Dec 12, 2023
1 answer
A
Greetings Charles. Thank you for your question. Two answers. When the speaker is in range of your home wifi, you would be using the Spotify app on your phone as a controller, and the Roam will be getting Spotify directly from the Internet using of course wifi. That will not tie up your phone. Using Bluetooth of course will somewhat, the phone will need to be nearby, so you cannot walk away more than 30 feet or you will lose connection, and when you get a call, the music pauses on the speaker while on that call.

Q
Can I use Siri with Sonos Roam?
rob  Feb 02, 2022
1 answer
A
You are able to ask Siri-enabled devices, using Apple AirPlay 2 that is built into the device, to control playback of Apple Music on the Sonos Roam. This does not add Siri to the device using its built-in microphone or let you control it directly within the Apple Home app, however.

Q
I have music on an iPod. Can I use a SONOS ROAM to play music from my iPod?
wayde  Oct 27, 2022
1 answer
A
That will depend on the model of iPod. If your iPod has Bluetooth or the ability to download the Sonos app, then this can work. If you have an older iPod with only a headphone jack for audio output, then it will not be compatible with the Sonos Roam.

Q
What is the output power of this device in watts?
brett  Jun 18, 2022
1 answer
A
Unfortunately Sonos does not release the information about wattage output of their powered speakers. What we do know is that the Sonos Roam has 2 Class-H Digital Amplifiers that have been perfectly tuned to the speaker's unique acoustic architecture. You can use the Sonos S2 app to adjust bass, treble, and loudness.

I have frequent internet interruptions and limited access to router. Will the roam reconnect wirelessly? I currently have the first Sonos 1 which needs to be hardwired to use after internet loss.

Good day, Molly I also have 1's and have multiple interruptions (loss of internet) a month, which causes my Sono system to go down, but the system comes back almost every time including the 1"s. The only time I've had reconnect issues is when I've made the mistake of updating my S1 to the new software S2 and that was a huge redo considering I have units mounted and inside the walls, this includes subs, soundbars this took almost 6 hours including a tech from geek squad, 1'S X4, 3"s x4, 3 moves, 2 subs arc, soundbar and amps, I have four very large systems mixed with high-end audio, half are on the S1 and the rest are on S2. But back to the original question, I have four roams three in my condo (bath and balcony) and 1 in the second condo (same use) both are on Comcast internet so far they reconnect with no more attention than other units, they do require reconnecting to my TVs (Sony x2, LG x3, and Samsung x2 all Oled)????, sometimes they reconnect to the TV's sometimes not, even though I do not use the roams for satellites, I do have them to use when I move to balconies or showering and listening to sports, news, and music. They are very nice for these types of applications, but as sat's or main speakers you will be much happier with moves, The roams are for travel, listening outside or as accent speakers, very little low end maybe with a sub?? They do sound nice and have very few loss of signal interruptions. I would purchase them again for use as previously stated. Last note: If I keep them connected to power they reconnect much easier with both TVs and the system. Hope this helps Maurice

All Sonos speakers will reconnect wirelessly. I have Sonos1( Original) and they do connect to the dedicated WiFi network using the BOOST from Sonos . At times I need to regroup the speakers after a power loss, but all are on the Sonos network. I replaced the old Sonos "connect" with the "Boost" when it came out. It establishes an independent network and extends the area of use . Not really familiar with slaving the speakers to an existing house Wifi network, other than they do require hard wire hook ups after a power failure and if the wifi is busy, music drop outs occur with that arrangement. Using the boost eliminates drop outs and speakers are truly wireless. Hope this helps...

I'm not sure. We have stable internet so that issue has not cropped up. I know it connects seamlessly when o take it to some one else's house, so I would think it would reconnect easily when signal comes back.

Do I have to have Alexa? Does it need to be activated or is it automatic with Amazon Alexa?

A
You can use goggle or Alexa. Go to the Sonos app, and activate voice control.
greg  Nov 01, 2021
A
As I recall, when I set up this Sonos Roam, there was an option to activate ALEXA. I chose to activate it since I have a whole houseful of ALEXAS. You just have to tell ALEXA what Wi-Fi to hook up to.

I do not have Alexa and it works fine.
richard  Nov 01, 2021
A
No you do not need to use Alexa or have anything Amazon. It will not respond to voice without linking it though. I chose not to link and just use the Sonos app.

Q
Can you listen to SiriusXM channels on Sonos roam using Alexa?
harry  Jun 12, 2021

A
Yes. As long as the account is set up beforehand, it should work. However, you will probably have better results by running it natively in the Sonos app. Think of the Roam as having the same feature set as the Sonos One, portable, and with Bluetooth ability (when away a WiFi network).
jose  Jun 12, 2021
A
Absolutely! Well as long as you have Sirius xm app subscription.
dan  Jun 12, 2021
A
Yes, the Roam is full featured like the Move. Great sound too.

The Sonos Roam only supports Bluetooth audio streaming (A2DP). It does not support Bluetooth hands-free control (HFP) for making or answering phone calls.
